Privacy Policy

This is not legal advice. If you have specific legal questions, please contact a legal professional. This page is intended to provide helpful information about how American Hull approaches privacy, identity verification, payments, and safety. We are looking into using ID.me as an identity verification platform. We also use Stripe for our payment system. We are continuing to look at the best ways to protect both buyers and sellers while keeping the amount of personal information we collect to a minimum. Our goal is simple: collect only the information we need and use reasonable security measures to help verify that people are who they say they are. That said, no website, payment system, or identity verification service can completely eliminate scams or fraud. You still need to take precautions. Protect Yourself Do not send money for a boat unless you have seen the boat and independently confirmed who owns it. Limit the personal information you provide to buyers and sellers until you know who you are dealing with and, whenever possible, meet in person. Even if someone has been verified through a service, still use your own judgment and confirm their identity before completing a sale. Don't send copies of sensitive personal information, banking information, passwords, or other information simply because someone asks for it. Watch Out for Boat Report Scams One scam we want people to know about involves a buyer contacting a seller and telling them they need to purchase a particular boat history, Hull report, inspection report, or similar report before the buyer will continue with the sale. If someone sends you to a specific website to purchase a report, stop and do your own research before paying. We do not know whether every website involved in these scams is actually stealing personal information, but we do know that fraudulent boat-report websites are being used as part of scams. For legitimate vessel documentation information, you can independently check with the U.S. Coast Guard National Vessel Documentation Center rather than relying on a website chosen by a stranger. Remember Scamming is a multibillion-dollar industry. Scammers can afford to spend money building professional-looking websites, creating convincing documents, and making their scams look legitimate. A website that looks professional does not mean the person behind it is legitimate. Slow down. Verify independently. Don't let someone pressure you into sending money or personal information. We are doing our best to build American Hull with safety and privacy in mind, but we cannot protect you from every scam. Your best protection is taking the time to verify who you are dealing with before you send money or sensitive information. On that note, if you call you will get Amy or me, Danie! I might answer in another language due to scammers; however, you will get a person who is who they say they are! Or if I am busy I'll call you back if you leave a message or text!
